Сейчас я заканчиваю вуз, но хочу рассказать о своем опыте ученичества, потому что знаю: в школах хватает детей с такими же особенностями, как у меня, и знаю по своему опыту, насколько им нелегко

Сейчас я заканчиваю вуз, но хочу рассказать о своем опыте ученичества, потому что знаю: в школах хватает детей с такими же особенностями, как у меня, и знаю по своему опыту, насколько им нелегко.
Начальная школа
Диагноз Синдром Аспергера (нет, это не болезнь, это особенности развития аутичного плана) мне поставили врачи, когда мне было уже 9 лет. До этого, по рассказам родителей, врачи утверждали, что у меня просто есть особенности характера.  Я к тому моменту учился в начальной школе, в которой мне очень повезло с учителем: она, как должное, принимала все мои «особенности», не давила и вообще делала самое главное – не очень меня донимала.
Сейчас я понимаю, что «особенностей» у меня тогда хватало. Я пришел в первый класс, умея бегло читать, хорошо считать и писать печатными буквами. Я к тому моменту прочитал несколько «Авантовских» энциклопедий и был страстно увлечен астрономией. На уроках мне было очень скучно, как правило, я на них либо спал, либо читал свои книги. Поскольку память у меня хорошая, то уроки я делал минут 15 в день. В начальной школе учился на все пятерки. Но за 4 года так и не запомнил имена своих одноклассников,  не научился играть в коллективные игры, не понял, что такое субординация, а самое главное – не научился учиться. И все это мне сильно вышло боком в средней школе.
Первые сложности
После окончания начальной школы я поступил в гимназию, в которой было обучение с 5 по 11 класс. В гимназии был школьный психолог, и моя мама обратилась к нему в самом начале. Психолог ничего не знала про синдром Аспергера, а мамины объяснения не стала слушать, спросив только, точно ли я психически нормален?
Пятый класс я продержался на базовых знаниях, мне их вполне хватило, чтобы, совсем не напрягаясь, проучиться год на «четыре» и «пять».
С одноклассниками я не общался, я не знал, как это делать, а главное – зачем. Меня, конечно, донимали. И смеялись надо мной, и издевались. Меня это сильно не трогало, я лишь раздражался, что вся эта возня меня отвлекает. На переменах я либо читал, либо обдумывал то, что прочитал до этого.
Самое сложное для меня было – социальные ситуации. Я никогда не понимал, как себя надо вести, что говорить, а что нет, почему нужно слушаться учителей, почему я не могу положить голову на парту на уроке и поспать, если хочется спать. Я не понимал шуток. Все принимал за чистую монету. У меня были странные, по общему мнению, привычки: я не мог говорить, стоя на одном месте, мне обязательно нужно было прохаживаться (я и сейчас не могу говорить, не двигаясь), поэтому с ответами у доски были проблемы: все учителя требовали, чтобы я не шевелился, не ходил, отвечал, «как положено».
Вот это «как положено» были для меня самыми страшными словами, потому что я никогда не знал, «как положено» вести себя в той или иной ситуации. По вечерам мы с мамой составляли для меня учебник приемлемого обществом поведения: она расписывала какие-то ситуации, объясняла, как лучше всего себя в них вести, а я для себя записывал. Наши эти вечерние разговоры иногда затягивались на часы, потому что я не понимал, протестовал, требовал логического обоснования каждому, приведенному мамой рецепту.
Почему в столовой нужно обязательно сидеть со своим классом, а не в одиночестве, если есть свободные столы?
Почему учителю нельзя на уроке сказать, что он ошибся, если он и вправду ошибся?
Почему здороваться всегда первым должен младший со старшим, даже если старший увидел младшего первым, а младший еще старшего не видит?
Почему, если ученик опоздал на урок, его ругают, а, если учитель опоздал, то ему ничего на эту тему нельзя сказать?
Почему я должен тратить время и учить песню для урока музыки, если я не люблю и не хочу петь? И т.д.
Я всего этого искренне не понимал. И таких вопросов у меня возникало множество.
Проблемы в учебе
В шестом классе я скатился на «тройки» и «двойки», потому что базовых знаний уже не хватало, а учиться я так и не научился. Я по привычке не особо утруждал себя выполнением домашних заданий, а хорошая память в одиночку уже не спасала. Родители пытались со мной бороться, взывали к моему самолюбию, но у меня не было самолюбия. Меня не задевали «двойки», они меня расстраивали только потому, что они огорчали родителей. Методом проб и ошибок я подобрал для себя режим учебы, который и меня устраивал, и результаты которого устраивали учителей и родителей. Я первые месяцы четверти не учился, за 2-3 недели до окончания четверти откладывал на потом все свои интересы и «спасал» положение с оценками по всем предметам. В отличники я, конечно, не выбивался, но хорошистом по итоговым оценкам был.
С одноклассниками я все также не общался. Друзей у меня не было (и сейчас нет). Я постоянно попадал впросак в вопросах взаимодействия с людьми.
И да, у меня были интересы, которые никак не были связаны с учебой, но которые захватывали меня полностью. Много лет меня интересовала тема транспорта. Я прочитал много книг, я изучил множество сайтов на эту тему, я «знал в лицо» все модели поездов, электричек, вагонов, автобусов, трамваев и т.д. Я знал, в каком году какая станция московского метро была открыта.  Мне это было интересно, поэтому, вернувшись после школы домой, я до ночи читал, смотрел, изучал, рисовал схемы железнодорожных путей и составлял расписания. Какие уж тут уроки?
В начале 7 класса моим учителям наскучил мой режим учебы, и начались с ними конфликты. Решение нашла мама: она посоветовала мне извлечь выгоду из моих разнообразных интересов и включиться в проектную деятельность. Я это сделал, и этот совет помог мне без особых проблем доучиться до конца 11 класса. Несколько раз в год я делал разнообразные проекты, от гимназии меня с ними отправляли на всякие окружные, городские и всероссийские конкурсы, я получал на них призовые места и привозил в гимназию грамоты и награды. Поэтому меня оставили в покое и позволили учиться так, как я хотел. Забежав вперед скажу, что я прилично сдал ЕГЭ, поступил на бюджет в выбранный вуз и через год получу диплом переводчика.
Взгляд назад
Я не могу сказать, что 11 лет учебы в школе были для меня 11 мучительными годами. Не так уж сильно я и страдал. Но было нелегко. Нелегко, когда донимали одноклассники, а я не понимал, зачем они это делают и как себя вести, чтобы они прекратили. Нелегко, когда учителя злились на меня за то, что я делаю что-то не так, «как положено». Нелегко, когда по три недели в конце каждой четверти приходилось разбираться в том, что было совсем неинтересно, учить то, от чего было скучно, набивать руку на решении задач, которые, я точно знал, мне в дальнейшем никогда не придется решать.
А сложнее всего было регулярно находиться внутри ситуаций, которые казались мне совершенно абсурдными при том, что все остальные воспринимали их как само собой разумеющееся.  Самый яркий пример – открытые уроки. Сначала мы несколько уроков репетируем, потом приходят какие-то люди, мы делаем вид, что нам все в новинку, что нам очень интересно, что мы – умные и продвинутые дети, которые ловят все на лету, жутко мотивированы и активны, а сидящие на задних партах гости делают вид, что нам верят. Можно ли придумать более абсурдное занятие на 45 минут, чем вот это? Мне  каждый раз было ужасно неловко, стыдно от идиотизма происходящего и я чувствовал себя ущербным, потому что все остальные свои роли разыгрывали почти с удовольствием.
Подводя итог
Школьникам с разнообразными синдромами и особенностями жизненно необходима помощь профессионального школьного психолога, который мог бы поддерживать и направлять ребенка, объяснять учителям, что то или иное поведение такого ученика – это не дурь, а проявления его синдрома. Без такой помощи возможно, как показывает мой пример, но очень непросто.

Have you ever heard people say that they tend to be more of a right-brain or left-brain thinker? From books to television programs, you've probably heard the phrase mentioned numerous times or perhaps you've even taken an online test to determine which type best describes you. You've probably spotted at least a few infographics on Pinterest or Facebook claiming to reveal your dominant brain hemisphere.





You've probably also come across a few articles or books suggesting you can unleash the hidden creativity of right brain thinking or the deductive logic of left brain thinking.



People who identify as left-brain thinkers might feel that they have strong math and logic skills. Those who profess to be right-brain thinkers, on the other hand, feel that their talents are more on the creative side of things. Given the popularity of the idea of "right-brained" and "left-brained" thinkers, it might surprise you learn that this idea is just one of many myths about the brain.



What Is Left Brain - Right Brain Theory?

According to the theory of left-brain or right-brain dominance, each side of the brain controls different types of thinking. Additionally, people are said to prefer one type of thinking over the other. For example, a person who is "left-brained" is often said to be more logical, analytical, and objective.



A person who is "right-brained" is said to be more intuitive, thoughtful, and subjective.



In psychology, the theory is based on the lateralization of brain function. The brain contains two hemispheres that each performs a number of roles. The two sides of the brain communicate with one another via corpus callosum.





The left hemisphere controls the muscles on the right side of the body while the right hemisphere controls those on the left. This is why damage to the left side of the brain, for example, might have an effect on the right side of the body.



So does one side of the brain control specific functions? Are people either left-brained or right-brained? Like many popular psychology myths, this one grew out of observations of the human brain that were then dramatically distorted and exaggerated.



The right brain-left brain theory originated in the work of Roger W. Sperry, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1981. While studying the effects of epilepsy, Sperry discovered that cutting the corpus callosum (the structure that connects the two hemispheres of the brain) could reduce or eliminate seizures.



However, these patients also experienced other symptoms after the communication pathway between the two sides of the brain was cut. For example, many split-brain patients found themselves unable to name objects that were processed by the right side of the brain but were able to name objects that were processed by the left-side of the brain. Based on this information, Sperry suggested that language was controlled by the left-side of the brain.





Generally speaking, the left side of the brain tends to control many aspects of language and logic, while the right side tends to handle spatial information and visual comprehension.



Later research has shown that the brain is not nearly as dichotomous as once thought. For example, research has shown that abilities in subjects such as math are strongest when both halves of the brain work together. Today, neuroscientists know that the two sides of the brain collaborate to perform a broad variety of tasks and that the two hemispheres communicate through the corpus callosum.



"No matter how lateralized the brain can get, though, the two sides still work together," science writer Carl Zimmer explained in an article for Discover magazine.



"The pop psychology notion of a left brain and a right brain doesn’t capture their intimate working relationship. The left hemisphere specializes in picking out the sounds that form words and working out the syntax of the phrase, for example, but it does not have a monopoly on language processing. The right hemisphere is more sensitive to the emotional features of language, tuning-in to the slow rhythms of speech that carry intonation and stress."



In one study by researchers at the University of Utah, more 1,000 participants had their brains analyzed in order to determine if they preferred using one side over the other. The study revealed that while activity was sometimes higher in certain critical regions, both sides of the brain were essentially equal in their activity on average.



“It’s absolutely true that some brain functions occur in one or the other side of the brain. Language tends to be on the left, attention more on the right. But people don’t tend to have a stronger left- or right-sided brain network. It seems to be determined more connection by connection," explained the study's lead author Dr. Jeff Anderson.



While the idea of right brain / left brain thinkers has been debunked, its popularity persists. So what exactly did this theory suggest?

So Why Do People Still Talk About Right-Brain, Left-Brain Theory?

Researchers have demonstrated that right-brain/left-brain theory is a myth, yet its popularity persists. Why? Unfortunately, many people are likely unaware that the theory is outdated.



Today, students might continue to learn about the theory as a point of historical interest - to understand how our ideas about how the brain works have evolved and changed over time as researchers have learned more about how the brain operates.



While over-generalized and overstated by popular psychology and self-help texts, understanding your strengths and weaknesses in certain areas can help you develop better ways to learn and study. For example, students who have a difficult time following verbal instructions (often cited as a right-brain characteristic) might benefit from writing down directions and developing better organizational skills. The important thing to remember if you take one of the many left brain/right brain quizzes that you will likely encounter online is that they are entirely for fun and you shouldn't place much stock in your results.
